A ten year old Lachlan MacLean was there the day their laird, John MacLean ordered the annihilation of the MacKinnon clan.  Under the impression that the entire clan was dead, they left for the MacLean stronghold of Duart Castle.

Little did they know that two survived that day.  Duncan and Sheena MacKinnon, brother and sister, the only children of the MacKinnon laird hid from the slaughter and lived through it.

In order to protect the children from the MacLeans, Alexander, the king of Scotland separated them by sending Duncan to the laird of the MacAlisters and took Sheena under his own protection by making her his ward and kept her within the walls of Dunollie Castle.  However, when the king dies, Sheena becomes the ward of Robert the Bruce and fate takes hold.

Twenty years have gone by and on the eve before the Beltane, The Bruce declares that Sheena is to marry Lachlan MacLean, the new laird of the MacLeans...her enemy.

Could this be the work of the fates, or has an unseen force encouraged Robert the Bruce to bring together these two clans once again?
